Oak Mountain Camping
On Tuesday I noticed the weather was very nice and would be wonderful for camping. I've missed going camping the last few years not to mention feeling guilty I was depriving my kids of so much fun. After a quick check of the weekend weather I saw the forcast was perfect and asked Peter if he was up for a last minute trip. We've been a bit shy of camping here in AL. Between the summer heat, humidity, noisy cicadas, and torrential thunderstorms we were wondering how it would ever happen. Being the end of Oct now, all that has passed and we decided to go for it. This was Micah's first camping trip and Anna hasn't been since this:
We live about 15 minutes from Oak Mountain State Park and so I called to make a reservation for the weekend. We packed plenty of s'more fixings, hot dogs to roast, and other camping essentials.
Saturday we enjoyed a hike, the animals at the petting zoo, riding bikes, and collecting more firewood. We also realized there was an Alabama football game we would be missing. We solved that problem by pulling the car up close to our site and turning up the radio. We could walk to the bathroom without interruption to the announcing, no less than three other people in the route were broadcasting from their sites as well. Not wanting to run the car battery down we opted to not listen to the entire game but have no fear, we easily kept up with the score. Echos of "roll tide" passed through the campground with each AL touchdown.
The kids had fun. Anna can't decide what her favorite part was. She definitely didn't like having to walk to the restrooms in the middle of the night. Micah on the other hand consistently says his favorite part was walking up the hill to the afore mentioned bathroom. So between that and the large volumes of hot chocolate consumed, we made lots of trips:)

It was a perfectly successful trip and we can't wait to go again.
