Walk to the Park

We took a walk to the park on Saturday between breaks in the rain.  We saw a few bottles and cans to pick up for recycling.  And then a few more. The bushes have been recently trimmed and being winter, there is less foliage as well.  What is usually a 5 min walk gained us 40 items for recycling!  That's $2.  Micah and Anna walked behind the bushes and used branches to dig up the bottles that were out of easy reach.

We have made such a game out of this recently that we rarely say "there's a bottle."  It's now "I see 5 cents!"  Our walks are referred to by how much we found.  As in "we took a 25 cent walk today."  We've even wondered what it would be like to adopt a section of freeway to have access to all the stuff that ends up at the edge of the road.

Recycling has become a fun source of pocket money for the kids.
