First AL Beach Trip, Pt 3

We traveled to Mobile on Monday to see the sites since the weather report called for rain.

 

The old section of town has beautiful oak lined streets with restored houses and buildings.  We visited the cemetary where the earliest French and Spanish settlers were buried. 

We toured the USS Alabama...

...and the USS Drum.  I've always wanted to tour a submarine so this was particularly interesting to me.  20% of men who served on submarines didn't return from duty during WW2.  Roughly 2% of Americans serving in general did not return.  Only another 5% were injured.

 I think I need to watch The Hunt for Red October again.  It was interesting to see the setting in which a story like that would take place.

Besides the weather, this sign might also have kept us inside the museum exhibit halls.  I'd like to see an alligator in the wild but maybe I'm not really interested in tracking them down myself.
