Chattanooga - Ruby Falls

Last weekend we took a three day trip to Chattanooga, TN.  Peter found a nice cabin to rent and we got ready for a quick vacation.  We started with a tour of Ruby Falls.  This included a long elevator ride straight down into the rocks of Lookout Mountain and a 1/2ish mile hike to the underground cavern.  Anna was very excited by this adventure, Micah was a little uncertain of the dark and all the walking.

Here's the falls, named after the discoverer's wife.  Although the native americans knew of many caves in the area, this one was only discovered when the elevator shaft was dug, intended for the route of another cave tour.  Had they drilled three feet to the side, it would have been missed completely.

Above the elevator entrance, a visitor center and lookout tour give a nice view of Chattanooga.  As you can see, the sun is too bright and the wiggles too compelling for much of a picture.
