Saturday 2/18

Needing to get out of the house today we headed out at about 9ish...

...and then returned to the house because I forgot the stroller.

Publix was the first stop, a perfect storm of grocery sales and coupons making really good prices on Kellogg's cereal.  I picked up 5 boxes for about 40 cents a piece.  The $7 dollars worth of postage stamps I found in the parking lot on the way back to the car made the trip particularly worth it.

Next stop, McWane Science Center for Big Machines Day.  Lots of big construction equipment, cutesy little hard hats for the kiddos, and a couple of hundred children who immediately press the horn when they get into the driver's seat.  If you can get them into the driver's seat.  Sometimes the friendly construction worker at the end of the 10 min line, kindly offering to boost a child up the too-tall steps puts the kibosh on their interest in seeing the insides.  Even the fire truck couldn't tempt them.  However, we did find an unattended crane.

Our last stop was the Birmingham Home and Garden Show.  We got four free tickets in the mail and since kids under five are free, we passed two along to some strangers we met in line.  Anna and Micah quickly got into the spirit of walking up and down the booths, gathering candy and balloons from vendors.  (Kind of like Halloween without the costumes.)   The food sampling hall sponsored by Western Supermarkets was especially exciting.  We had chocolate milk, Sunny Delight, BBQ sausages, oreo cookies, whole ice cream bars, chips, and soda.  And we didn't even hit every booth!

Yesterday our play set arrived. Next month Papa comes to help put it together. Until then, our garage has a tempting pile of wood pieces, all numbered and completely out of order. Due to the fresh cedar scent, I'm sure our garage will be bug free all summer.

Getting better cell-phone reception in the kitchen these days.  (That's Oscar the fish at the end of the line.)

  2. We've never been to the Home and Gardens show - always sounded boring! Now you're making me want to try it.
