Not THAT Bad

Having sick children isn't so bad is it?  Aside from the extra loads of laundry, multiple wake-ups in the middle of the night, backaches from doing one-handed house chores, and uncertainty of daily schedules, we do pretty well in spite of the fevers and vomiting.  I have more motivation to join in the play-doh making and train set building.  Who cares if it takes all day to make a batch of cookies?  I'm not going anywhere and it's nice to not be rushed sometimes.  I find I have so much more time to pray for things - what else do you do in the middle of the night snuggled on the couch in an uncomfortable position that won't allow you to sleep?  You might even think me horrible when I admit I don't administer tylenol for each teething pain or fever!  I understand there's a limit to pain and risks with being ill, but I see a lot of medical and spiritual reasons to not try and prevent or remove every symptom or inconvenience.  If I am trying to establish character and dependence on God in my children and myself, why would I try to avoid being sick and the plethora of opportunities it provides?

  1. You've got the right idea Sarah. It is not pleasant and it's not what we want, but illness, in us, or those we care for, can be just what we need to build our character in areas where we've been weak.
