Flute Choir
This afternoon I went with a couple of fellow flute players to the State Captitol Rotunda to hear a flute choir preform. There were about 12 players and they did a wonderful job. I had seen the regular C, alto, and bass flutes before but never the contra bass. It is over eight feet long and plays two octaves below the regular flute's range. Should anyone wish to purchase one for me for Christmas, they start at about $16,000.
For a picture of a contra bass (and some very interesting tid bits including the much cheaper contra bass made of PVC pipe) click here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contrabass_flute
When the concert was over, my friends and I went up to ask about the instrument. She let us play it! It was very cool. The sound is a lot lower than a normal flute and it takes only slightly more air.
