Yes, there are two nail holes entering the wood directly over the pipe. To Peter's credit, the one on the right is his and only caused the leak to be larger than the original hole on the left. This is a good thing! We had taken off the piece of siding to replace a rotten patch. We thought it was caused by water splashing up from below but because Peter accidently nailed into the pipe when putting up the new siding, the leak got bigger and we realized that there was already a hole. Had he correctly placed the new siding without nailing into a pipe (which was covered with a paper layer that hid the pipe) we would have left the original leak and the resulting damage to continue un-noticed.
We figured this all out at about 10 am on Saturday. At 11, I took Anna over to a friend's house so that I could get a shower and stay out of Peter's way while he had the plumbers come out. Eventually, the pipe was fixed and we were good to go - we thought.
At about 4, we discovered that the plumber's fix had damaged another connection. We still couldn't turn the water on for showers although we could have enough water for filling a pot with a slow drip from the sink and getting water to flush the toilets. This morning (Sunday) I went to church with Anna while Peter waited for the second plumber. They second leak was fixed by 1 and we now have running water again.
Needless to say, we haven't gotten to the painting yet. However, we are greatful that we have a cozy house that has electricity, a good roof, and running water. You never know how grateful you should be until you don't have something you take for granted. We always say our money is the Lord's but when he decides to give it to the plumber I must confess that I get a little whiney.

Hi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteNice to see pictures of you, Papa and uncle David-- I see all appear well! thanks for sharing.
As for the pipe and leaks and home projects -- so it goes...even the best laid plans. I don't think there is anything that is as it seems when it comes to doing work on a house you own -- something new, unplanned, and most often frustrating is sure to arise. :-)
Amen to that.
